Introduction

Welcome to our website. As District Grand Master, and in the name of all members of the District Grand Lodge of Cyprus, I thank you for your interest and welcome you, whether a Freemason or a person in search of enlightenment. We are a District under the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), which is considered the world’s premier Grand Lodge.

For you who are browsing and want to know more about Freemasonry, we invite you to not only browse at will but more so to contact us and get to know us. We are fathers, brothers, sons and family men. What makes us different is the way we interact, respect and treat each other with a trust based on personal integrity and a belief in a supreme being who gifted us with life and the intelligence to enjoy it responsibly.

Freemasonry, the Craft, is a unique set of learnings veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. It stands from time immemorial and its sole aim is to celebrate the union between God, the Great Architect of all we know, and Man. Many ask why we have secrets. The answer is simple. One has to come of age in one’s learning to understand the lesson and therefore there are no secrets but steps in one’s understanding, learning and development.

Let me advise from the outset that Freemasonry is not about social or business advantages, or an insurance against misfortune. Amongst our greatest achievers we number some of the world’s intellectual giants. Amongst our greatest achievements we treasure charitable work to deserving causes. Freemasonry is about giving not taking, about sharing and caring, about upholding the law and being a responsible member of society. Above all, it requires a belief in one God, the God of the individual concerned, whom we refer to as the “Great Architect of the Universe”. It is a personal path of enrichment through enlightenment, shared, experienced and enjoyed with brothers.

The fact that any man of any faith, colour, ethnic origin, or socio-economic position in society can become a Freemason shows the enduring universality of our appeal. We are not and do not seek to be a religion, a pressure group to confront government, a self-interested benefit society or a dining club for the social elite. We inculcate in our members a lifestyle which is just and upright, morally responsible and law-abiding such that when a man is known to be a Freemason, he is seen as a credit to himself, to his family, to the Craft and to the community in which he lives and works.

Fundamental ideals that I encourage our members to keep steadfast to and build upon in their journey within the craft. I remind and encourage brethren to foster their demand and interest for learning (particularly of our rituals, traditions, symbolism and history), so that it becomes increasingly a regular part of masonic activity. In addition to the hundreds of articles of UGLE learning material which will shortly become available for personal use or for presentation in Lodges/Chapters via the online platform Solomon, our DGL Cyprus Mentoring Programme together with experienced mentors will continue the tried and tested method used to impart wisdom and learning from generation to generation.

Use these resources to progress yourself in the craft, deepen your personal knowledge and engage in worthy and enjoyable activities that fire up the true masonic spirit. Let us evidence our brotherhood through actions and attitudes and become cornerstones of a just and learned society.
