Visiting The Royal Arch Chapter of Melita No 349 - Malta
The Grand Superintendent In and Over Cyprus EComp Michael C. Hadjicostantas visited the island of Malta on the weekend of May 31st – June 2nd on an invitation by the Grand Inspector for Malta Dr. Lawrence Porter, to take part in the official celebrations for the 200 years from the establishment of the Chapter of Melita No 349, the first Royal Arch Chapter in the Mediterranean area.

From the book on the Chapter’s history (written by our own EComp Eddie Kalogeropoulos and translated also by our own EComp George Poulimenos) which was presented for the occasion we learn that although the Chapter just reached the 200 years from the granting of its Charter of Constitution, it is not technically its bi-centenary year because of some gaps in its operation in the early 19th century as decided by the Supreme Grand Chapter. Nevertheless the 3rd Grand Principal was very pleased to join the numerous delegations from the English constitution and foreign GChapters along with a retinue of Grand Officers and unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the occasion.
Those attending included the GHP of the GCh RAM of Greece MEComp Kostantinos Politis, the GSupInt In and Over Portugal, dignitaries from the GL of Malta, delegations from Hungary, France and over 60 Companions. Our GSupInt conveyed the District’s warm and fraternal greetings and gave a Kyrenia ship replica as a gift to the celebrating Chapter. He also had the chance to meet old friends and a country member of Lord Kitchener Lodge now residing in Malta. Overall a very successful visit where the District of Cyprus was seen to support the English Royal Arch community in the Mediterranean area.
Ο Περιφερειακός Πρώτος Μεγάλος Άρχοντας του Υπάτου Μεγάλου Περιστυλίου της Βασιλικής Αψίδας της Αγγλίας για την Κύπρο, Έξοχος Εταίρος Μιχαήλ Κ. Χατζηκωνσταντάς, επισκέφθηκε τη Μάλτα το διήμερο 31 Μαΐου – 1η Ιουνίου, προσκεκλημένος του Μεγάλου Επιθεωρητή του Περιστυλίου της Μάλτας δρ. Λόρενς Πόρτερ, για τον επίσημο εορτασμό των διακοσίων χρόνων από τη χορήγηση του ιδρυτικού χάρτη του Περιστυλίου Μελίτα υπ’ αρ. 349, του πρώτου Περιστυλίου ΒΑ στη Μεσόγειο.
Μολονότι έχουν περάσει ακριβώς 200 χρόνια από την ίδρυσή του, το Περιστύλιο δεν εόρτασε την 200ετηρίδα του διότι υπάρχουν κάποια κενά στη συνεχή λειτουργία του ιδίως κατά τις πρώτες δεκαετίες της ιστορίας του, όπως αναφέρεται στην επίσημη έκδοση της ιστορίας του Περιστυλίου Μελίτα 349 (που συνέγραψε ο δικός μας Εξ. Εταίρος Έντυ Καλογερόπουλος και μετέφρασε ο δικός μας επίσης Εξ. Εταίρος Γιώργος Πουλημένος). Παρευρέθηκε ο Τρίτος Μεγάλος Άρχοντας Έξοχος Εταίρος Γκάρεθ Τζόουνς ο οποίος απεκάλυψε αναμνηστική επιγραφή για την επέτειο που θα αναρτηθεί στο τεκτονικό Μέγαρο της Βαλέτας. Συμμετείχαν αντιπροσωπείες από τα Περιφ. Μεγ. Περιστύλια ΒΑ της Αγγλίας στην Πορτογαλία, Γαλλία, Ουγγαρία καθώς και ο Μέγας Προκαθήμενος του Μεγ. Περιστυλίου ΒΑ της Ελλάδος Εξοχότατος Εταίρος Κωνσταντίνος Πολίτης με μεγάλους αξιωματικούς.
Ο Πρώτος Μεγ. Άρχοντας Μιχ. Χατζηκωνσταντάς επέδωσε στους Άρχοντες του Περιστυλίου Μελίτα ως δώρο της Περιφέρειας Κύπρου ένα αντίγραφο κυρηναϊκού πλοίου και είχε την ευκαιρία να έχει επαφές και συνομιλίες με την ηγεσία και την ευρύτερη κοινότητα του Αγγλικού Περιστυλιακού τεκτονισμού στη Μεσόγειο.
